pro tip: always utilize the “special instructions” section of the delivery prompt.
New O2 sensors as I near 300,000 miles.
put new plugs in on saturday, these weren’t too bad.
p.s. “pre-gaped” is a damned lie. Not a single one of the proper NGK plugs was anywhere close to the advertised gap, some were nearly fully closed.
Also in parts news - Toyota is awesome. Sure you can order part number 17801-66030 if you want a high quality factory air filter for your fj/fzj80, which is the only part number that shows up in most dealers computers, but...order 17801-61030, spend the same money and get this.
Factory washable air filter.
p.s. cyclonic filters best filters.

The only way pregaped works is if they have a protective sleeve to keep the electrode from getting smashed in shipping. Had OEM VAG plugs shipped to me that over half the electrodes were totally closed from being banged around during shipping. I was surprised there was no little sleeve around the threaded end. Most times I’ve purchased iridium plugs, they are protected and “pregapped” because they don’t want you putting a gap tool against the electrode or bending the tip of the plug. But those are the only ones.

I know it seems weird, but the best price I’ve gotten on spark plugs is from the dealer. $1.95/ea for Denso plugs. Plus another $15 for a dizzy cap and $8 for a rotor usually makes for a nice tune-up.

my plugs were about $2 each so no worried there. the box has Denso O2 sensors which are WAAAAY less than the dealer wanted. They wanted $180 for 1, I got 2 for less than $100

Yes, I’d also purchase Denso sensors over Denso sensors in a Toyota box. I’ve heard of some reports of increased MPGs with new O2 sensors, let me know if you see any difference?
I’ve got to sort out that dang P0401 code and a new valve cover gasket.

freakin p0401. it’s just a matter of cleaning the intake tract but thats easier said than done.

Or a defective modulation valve, or a plugged/cracked vac line, or a bad sensor, or that which you already suggested. I just need to find the time for it and read a few how-to threads.

to be honest...its almost ALWAYS the intact tract. There is a little passage from the PCV valve to the top of the intake and then to the lower intake and that gets clogged really easily.

I’ll start there! Does this involve pulling the intake manifold?
